Bistro Baron: a French Bistro in the Heart of Jakarta

Bistro Baron: a French Bistro in the Heart of Jakarta

It is a life-changing experience to walk through the cobblestone streets of Paris: the buzz, the stylish Parisians, the lingering history, the Eiffel tower, the macarons, and the chic bistro. French bistro, with its sophisticated decor and promise of delicious French cuisine, invites people to come inside or simply take a peek. It has become a breed of its own, spewing numerous French bistro-style restaurants all around the world. Bistro Baron at Plaza Indonesia is one of them.

Bistro Baron’s look undeniably represents a French bistro. The big glass windows, the music, the square wooden tables with white tablecloths, the way the tables are placed closely to one another—everything is what you would expect of a classic French bistro. Bistro Baron is a wonderful place to eat and spend your time, whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The food served is authentic French delicacy, characterised by its richness and layers of flavours. Our favourite entrée is Terrine de Foie Gras, a stack of brandy marinated foie gras, served with fig chutney and toasted bread. The combination of salty, creamy, buttery foie gras and crunchy toasted bread is balanced wonderfully by sweetness from the fig chutney. It is also a good introduction for those who haven’t tasted foie gras before.

For main course, we’re particularly hang-up on Bistro Baron’s Steak Frites. From the moment the plate is presented before our eyes, we have a feeling that this is going to be a great steak. On the plate is a juicy 200 grams of Black Angus Striploin—perfectly seared on both sides, and still slightly pink in the middle. Next, smear the steak with some herb butter and have a spoonful of the creamy mashed potatoes. We’re a happy camper!

Bon appetit!
