Bistro Gourmand — Matchalicious!

Oh, matcha. Deliciously bitter, healthy, green-coloured matcha. Primarily known as one of the tea types commonly used in Japanese chanoyu, matcha now has seeped into the daily life of people from all corners of the world, mainly in the form of blended drinks and desserts. Matcha latte, matcha cake, matcha everything! And speaking of matcha, we’re particularly obsessed with Bistro Gourmand’s Matcha Roll Cake.

Looking at Matcha Roll Cake is love at the first sight. The swirly green matcha sponge cake with its matcha cream filling is sitting beautifully atop of a generous pile of vanilla ice cream, finished with a bit of shaved almonds here and there. The first taste that hits is the bitterness from the matcha, then some sweetness from the vanilla ice cream, and finally a hint of coffee from the mocha jelly that wonderfully balances the flavour of the dish.

As good as Matcha Roll Cake is, when hunger strikes, even two plates of cakes won’t cut it. In other words, a savoury dish is in order! Our pick is Seared Chicken Breast with Raspberry, Ginger Sauce, and Seasonal Vegetables. Chicken might be typical, but when cooked to perfection — like this one — and spiced up with delicious sauce, its taste is second to none. Simply yum!

Still hungry? Pasta lovers surely want to indulge in Beef Sausage Pasta with Cream Sauce and Truffle Oil. The mushroomy oil works really well with the beef sausage, and the combination of pasta and cream sauce is always a favourite. To round everything up, can we have one more serving of Matcha Roll Cake, pretty please, with more almonds on top?
