3 Recommended Places to Eat Korean BBQ in Jakarta

Since the rise of Korean Wave in Indonesia, Jakarta suddenly finds itself swamped with numerous Korean cuisine establishments, hoping to attract fans of Hallyu and Jakarta foodies. Tune in to any K-dramas and you will surely find at least a scene where the characters are dining at a local food joint -most likely eating Korean BBQ. Whether it is bulgogi (beef), samgyeopsal (pork belly), or dak galbi (chicken), Korean BBQ caters to the palate of many, as it can be cooked and marinated to accommodate individual preferences. Here are our pick of restaurants to eat Korean BBQ in Jakarta.

1. Chung Gi Wa
Having opened 5 outlets all across Jakarta, Chung Gi Wa is possibly the most sought-out Korean BBQ restaurant in the city. Food bloggers have given rave reviews about Chung Gi Wa and expressed their wishes to come back for more -particularly for the juicy samgyeopsal. The restaurant’s recipe for success is the use of fresh ingredients and bamboo charcoal, directly harvested from its own farm in Sukabumi. Other notable menus are pajeon, japchae, and dolsot bibimbab.

2. Samwon Garden
Samwon Garden, located at Lotte Shopping Avenue, is a restaurant chain from Korea. At its origin, Samwon Garden is the largest first-class restaurant that can host 1.200 guests simultaneously. It has hosted local and foreign dignitaries: prime ministers, VIPs, The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. The restaurant’s speciality is galbi, beef ribs that are perfect for BBQ, accompanied with Samwon Garden’s own special marinade.

3. Gahyo
Gahyo is one of the best Korean restaurants in Jakarta; it has received the title of Jakarta’ s best Korean restaurant three times from a notable magazine. Gahyo prides itself on the highest quality of ingredients in every meal, perfectly seasoned to provide the best food experience. The authenticity of flavour is also proven by the high number of Korean clientele dining at this establishment. If you are brave enough, try their famous daechang (beef intestine).
