Chung Gi Wa, Your Go-To Place for Korean BBQ

Chung Gi Wa, Your Go-To Place for Korean BBQ

Let’s get this fact out of the way. Chung Gi Wa is hands down one of the best, if not the best, places for Korean BBQ in Jakarta. Cozy ambience, high-quality ingredients, friendly staffs. It is definitely worth every rupiah spent.

First is banchan. Similar to other Korean restaurants, Chung Gi Wa serves free banchan. Think of it as the Korean version of side dish. It is served in small portions and is meant to be eaten in the beginning and throughout the meal. Chung Gi Wa offers various types of delicious banchan.

Having said that, the real star of Chung Gi Wa is the main dish. The BBQ. Every table in Chung Gi Wa is equipped with BBQ set and a huge exhaust. You can choose to cook the meat yourself, but if you’re too lazy to do that, you can always ask the kitchen to cook it for you. The most favorite cut is samgyeopsal, or pork belly. Very fresh, juicy, and flavorful, especially when dipped into soy sauce and eaten with some chili. It melts in your mouth!

When you’re not in the mood for BBQ, give Japchae or Dolsot Bibimbap a try. Japchae is sweet potato starch noodle, cooked with sesame oil and served with carrot, onions, and thinly sliced mushroom. It is available in two versions, beef and pork. Meanwhile, Dolsot Bibimbap is the Korean version of “nasi goreng gila”. Served in hot plate bowl on a bed of white rice is beef, namul (seasoned vegetables), gochujang, and eggs. All you have to do is mix them together and devour the whole thing.

As for drinks, Chung Gi Wa offers complimentary ice tea. But if you’re a K-drama fan, you surely know that soju and alcoholic drinks are the perfect pair for BBQ. Whichever your pick is, you won’t be disappointed with Chung Gi Wa’s food and service.
