Kopi Oey, “Pokoke Maknyus!”

Kopi Oey, “Pokoke Maknyus!”

Besides being famous for the TV show Jalansutra and his trademark phrase “Maknyus,” Bondan Winarno is also known as the founder of Kopi Oey. Long before hipster and minimalist cafes started appearing everywhere in Jakarta, Kopi Oey already captured the hearts of coffee lovers. Not stopping at that, Kopi Oey also charms customers with its classic old Jakarta feel, kopitiam-style. Their first outlet in Jalan Sabang, for example, is decorated with old-style ornaments like tegel kunci flooring, marble tables, and vintage posters.

Open from 7AM to 11PM every day, Kopi Oey is a great place to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Start your day with their delicious Mie Ajam Bakso or Boeboer Ajam Oey, paired with the refreshing Ijs Teh Tarik. That’s what we call starting your day right. For lunch or dinner, Kopi Oey has a lot of Peranakan-style food choices, such as Bakmi Djawa Reboes. If you happen to visit sometime between 11AM to 3PM, do give Gado-Gado Bonbin, the iconic gado-gado from Cikini, a try.

Kopi Oey, true to its name, gives a special emphasize on coffee. On their coffee bar is various Indonesian single-origin coffee: Bali Kintamani, Gayo Aceh, Toraja Kalosi, Temanggung, and Flores Badjawa. Purists want to order it tubruk-style to get the full old-school experience. Having said that, serving with French Press and Drip Filter are also available. Everything is done manually without any machine.

Tasty, honest food with simple, homey presentation. A cup of solid black coffee. That’s what Kopi Oey is all about. No wonder Kopi Oey is a favorite spot for many repeat customers to hang out or have a casual meeting. Its dim, cosy ambience relaxes people and makes you want to stay a bit longer. While it has been franchised in various locations all across Jakarta, we remain attached to the original one in Sabang. Maknyus!
